How to Use

Dosage

One vial (100 micrograms).

Method

It is given as an injection into a vein or muscle right after your baby is born.

Important

The maximum daily dose is the single dose given after childbirth.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Fast heart rate (palpitations)
  • Slow heart rate
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., trouble breathing, swelling, dizziness, fast heartbeat, sweating, low blood pressure, fainting)
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Fainting
  • Muscle weakness
  • Fever
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Sweating

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to carbetocin or oxytocin.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver, kidney, or heart disease, or epilepsy.
  • Pabal must not be given before your baby is born.
  • Tell your doctor if you have migraines, asthma, high blood pressure (during pregnancy), heart or circulation problems, or other illnesses.
  • Pabal may cause your body to hold onto too much water, which can lead to feeling sleepy, restless, and having headaches.
