How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and adolescents (12 years and older) is 10 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride every 12 hours. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe a starting dose of 5 mg to reduce possible side effects.

Method

Swallow the prolonged-release tablets whole or halved with enough liquid (half a glass of water) in the morning and evening, following a fixed schedule (e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM). You can take Oxyratio Depot with or without food. Do not chew or crush the tablets.

Important

For severe cancer pain, the daily dose can be increased up to 400 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride. Your doctor will determine your exact maximum dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling very sleepy or drowsy, dizziness, headache
  • Constipation, feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting)
  • Itching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anxiety, feeling confused, feeling down (depression), feeling restless, trouble sleeping, unusual thoughts
  • Shaking (tremor), feeling very tired or sluggish
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pains, diarrhea, dry mouth, hiccups, upset stomach
  • Skin rashes, increased sweating
  • Painful urination, urgent need to urinate
  • Feeling weak, fatigue
RARE
  • Dehydration, agitation, mood swings, feeling extremely happy, seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • Decreased sexual desire, drug dependence (addiction)
  • Muscle stiffness, involuntary muscle twitches, seizures (fits)
  • Changes in sensation (numbness, tingling), speech problems, fainting, problems with coordination, changes in taste, memory loss, trouble focusing, migraine
  • Vision problems, changes in how many tears your eyes make, sensitive hearing, reduced hearing, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Fast heart rate, feeling your heart beat strong or unevenly (palpitations), widened blood vessels
  • Voice changes, cough, sore throat, runny nose, mouth sores, gum or mouth inflammation, trouble swallowing, gas, burping, blocked bowels (ileus)
  • Increased liver enzymes, dry skin, trouble emptying bladder (urinary retention)
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence), lower sex hormone levels, chills, general discomfort, thirst
  • Swelling due to too much fluid in the body (edema), especially in hands, ankles, or feet
  • Withdrawal symptoms (like yawning, sweating, restlessness, muscle pain) if you stop taking the medicine suddenly
  • Needing more of the medicine to get the same pain relief (tolerance)
  • Skin conditions like Herpes simplex, swollen lymph nodes, increased appetite
  • Low blood pressure, dizziness when standing up, black or sticky stools, dental problems, bleeding gums
  • Hives (urticaria), blood in urine, changes in weight, skin infection (cellulitis)
  • Aggression, increased pain sensitivity that doesn't get better with higher doses, sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep)
  • Tooth decay, right-sided stomach pain, gallstone colic, problems with a muscle in the intestines (Oddi's sphincter dysfunction) causing severe stomach pain
  • Missed periods (amenorrhea)
  • Life-threatening withdrawal syndrome in newborns if used during pregnancy, with symptoms like irritability, hyperactivity, poor sleep, high-pitched crying, shaking, vomiting, diarrhea, and not gaining weight.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems, severe lung disease (like COPD or severe asthma), or if your bowels have stopped working.
  • This medicine contains an opioid, which can cause strong addiction. Always follow your doctor's instructions to prevent dependence.
  • Never inject this medicine. It is only for taking by mouth. Injecting it can cause serious, even deadly, harm.
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can increase side effects and cause serious breathing problems.

  • This medicine can make you drowsy and affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful, especially at the start of treatment.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as it can harm your baby.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
