Oxyratio is a strong opioid pain medicine used by adults and teenagers (12 and older) to treat severe pain that only strong painkillers can manage.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and teens (12 and older) is 5 mg every 6 hours. If you have liver or kidney problems, or are underweight, your starting dose will be half of this.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with enough liquid, with or without food. Never inject the capsule contents, as this can be dangerous.

Important

Do not take Oxyratio more than 6 times a day.

  • Mouth sores or gum inflammation
  • Difficulty swallowing, gas, burping, or bowel blockage

  • Problems urinating
  • Impotence
  • Chills, thirst, or swelling in hands, feet, or ankles
  • Accidents or injuries
  • Cold sores (Herpes simplex)
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Increased appetite
  • Low blood pressure, feeling dizzy when standing up
  • Dark or sticky stools, discolored teeth, or bleeding gums
  • Hives (itchy rash)
  • Increased sensitivity to light
  • Blood in urine
  • Weight changes or inflammation under the skin (cellulitis)
  • Flaking skin rash (exfoliative dermatitis)
  • Aggression
  • Increased pain sensitivity that doesn't improve with higher doses
  • Sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep)
  • Tooth decay
  • Right-sided abdominal pain, itching, and yellow skin due to gallbladder inflammation or problems with a muscle in the intestines (Oddi's sphincter dysfunction)
  • Missed periods (amenorrhea)
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborn babies if used during late pregnancy (irritability, hyperactivity, abnormal sleep, high-pitched cry, shaking, vomiting, diarrhea, failure to gain weight)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxycodone hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause severe breathing problems, especially if you take too much. Seek urgent medical help if your breathing becomes very slow or shallow.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase side effects and cause dangerous breathing problems.
  • This medicine can make you drowsy or affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • This medicine contains an opioid and can lead to dependence or addiction, especially with long-term use, which could result in a life-threatening overdose.

  • Avoid using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as it can harm your baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially sedatives, as combining them with Oxyratio can cause extreme drowsiness, severe breathing problems, or coma.
  • Get immediate medical help if you experience sudden breathing difficulties, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips, or a rash or itching all over your body, as these can be signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
