How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10 mg every 12 hours. Your doctor may prescribe a lower starting dose of 5 mg or a higher dose as needed.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Take your dose in the morning and evening at the same time. Do not chew, divide, or crush the tablet.

Important

For cancer pain, the dose can be up to 400 mg per day. For other pain, it's usually 40 mg per day, but can be higher if needed.

  • Changes in senses (e.g., feeling unreal, hallucinations, mood swings, loud noises seem louder, restlessness)
  • Muscle stiffness or weakness, involuntary muscle twitching, memory loss, seizures, high blood pressure, speech problems, reduced sense of touch, coordination problems, fainting, tingling, taste changes
  • Tear production problems, vision problems, constricted pupils
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo), ringing in ears (tinnitus)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, palpitations, dilated blood vessels
  • Increased cough, sore throat, runny nose, voice changes
  • Mouth sores, gum inflammation, mouth inflammation, difficulty swallowing, gas, burping, blocked intestine
  • Increased liver enzymes, bladder spasm
  • Dry skin
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention)
  • Sexual dysfunction (reduced libido, impotence), low hormone levels in testes/ovaries
  • Accidental injuries, pain (e.g., chest pain), general feeling of unwellness, fluid retention, swelling in arms/legs, migraine, physical dependence, tolerance, thirst, chills
  • Lymph node disease
  • Seizures, muscle spasms (especially in epilepsy patients or those prone to seizures)
  • Low blood pressure, fainting upon standing
  • Gum bleeding, increased appetite, black stools, tooth discoloration/damage
  • Herpes (skin and mucous membrane disorder), hives
  • Weight changes (increase or decrease), skin infection
  • Anaphylactic reaction (severe allergic reaction)
  • Aggression
  • Increased pain sensitivity
  • Tooth decay, dental problems
  • Bile duct obstruction, biliary colic
  • Missed periods
  • Opioid withdrawal in newborns (irritability, hyperactivity, abnormal sleep, high-pitched cry, tremor, vomiting, diarrhea, poor weight gain) if taken during pregnancy
  • Sleep apnea (breathing pauses during sleep)
  • Bowel problem affecting a muscle, causing severe upper abdominal pain (Oddi's sphincter dysfunction)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to oxycodone hydrochloride or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems, such as very slow or weak breathing.
  • Do not take if you have severe chronic lung disease, heart disease related to lung problems, or severe asthma.
  • Do not take if you have a bowel blockage, sudden stomach pain, or slow digestion.
  • This medicine contains oxycodone, which is an opioid. It can lead to dependence. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned about addiction.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase the risk of serious side effects like drowsiness and slowed breathing.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase the effect of the medicine.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially those that affect brain function, such as sleeping pills, sedatives, or antidepressants.
  • If you are going to have surgery, tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience severe upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
