How to Use

Dosage

For adults and young people aged 12-18, the usual starting dose is 10 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride every 12 hours.

Method

Swallow the whole tablet with half a glass of water, with or without food. Take it morning and evening at the same time. Do not chew, break, or crush the tablet.

Important

For non-cancer pain, usually up to 40 mg daily. For cancer pain, doses can go up to 400 mg daily in special cases.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy, dizzy, or having a headache
  • Constipation, feeling sick to your stomach (nausea), or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Itchy skin
  • Not feeling hungry or having less appetite
  • Mood changes (like anxiety or sadness), feeling less active (sedation, drowsiness), or more restless (nervousness, sleeplessness), and problems with thinking (confusion, speech issues)
  • Feeling very drowsy or trembling (shaking)
  • Slowed breathing, trouble breathing, or wheezing
  • Dry mouth (sometimes with thirst and trouble swallowing), stomach problems (like stomach ache, diarrhea, or indigestion)
  • Skin problems like rashes, too much sweating, sometimes sensitivity to light, hives, or peeling skin
  • Problems with urinating, such as needing to go more often
  • Feeling weak or tired
RARE
  • Allergic reactions to the medicine.
  • Not having enough water in your body.
  • Feeling unreal, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), big mood changes, being very sensitive to sounds, feeling too happy or sad, or being restless.
  • Stiff or weak muscles, muscle twitches, memory loss, seizures, high blood pressure, trouble speaking, numbness, coordination problems, fainting, tingling skin, changes in taste.
  • Problems with tears, vision, small eye pupils, feeling like you are spinning (vertigo), ringing in the ears.
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, wider blood vessels.
  • More coughing, sore throat, runny nose, changes in voice.
  • Sores in the mouth, swollen gums, mouth inflammation, trouble swallowing, gas, burping, or a blocked bowel.
  • High liver test results, muscle cramps in the tube from the bladder, dry skin, trouble emptying your bladder.
  • Problems with sex drive (less interest, not being able to perform), lower hormone production in testicles or ovaries.
  • Accidental injuries, pain (like chest pain), general unwell feeling, swelling (fluid buildup in hands/feet), migraine, becoming physically dependent on the medicine with withdrawal symptoms, needing more medicine for the same effect, thirst, chills, swollen glands, low blood pressure when standing up, bleeding gums, increased hunger, dark stool, tooth damage, cold sores (herpes), hives, changes in weight, skin infection (cellulitis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have very slow or weak breathing.
  • Do not take if you have severe lung disease like COPD or severe asthma.
  • Do not take if you have a certain type of bowel blockage.
  • Do not take if you have sudden severe stomach pain or slow digestion.

  • This medicine contains an opioid and can cause dependence or addiction.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary.
  • Do not take if you are breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make you less alert. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel affected.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor.
  • Seek immediate medical help if your breathing becomes very slow or weak.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase its effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
