How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10 mg every 12 hours. Your doctor might start you on a lower dose of 5 mg to lessen side effects.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, in the morning and evening at the same time. Do not chew, break, or crush the tablet.

Important

For non-cancer pain, the usual daily dose is 40 mg, but it can be higher. For cancer pain, the dose is usually 80-120 mg per day and can be increased up to 400 mg. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy, dizzy, or having a headache
  • Constipation, feeling sick (nausea), or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Itching
  • Not feeling hungry or having a poor appetite
  • Changes in mood, such as feeling anxious or sad
  • Shaking (tremor)
  • Slow or difficult breathing
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach problems, like stomach pain, diarrhea, or upset stomach
  • Skin problems, such as rash, increased sweating, sensitivity to light, or hives
  • Needing to pee more often
  • Feeling weak or tired
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including severe allergic reactions
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Seizures, muscle spasms
  • Low blood pressure, fainting when standing up
  • Bleeding gums, tooth discoloration and damage, tooth decay, tooth problems
  • Increased appetite, black stool
  • Cold sores (herpes simplex), hives (urticaria)
  • Weight changes (gain or loss)
  • Skin infection (cellulitis)
  • Aggression
  • Increased sensitivity to pain
  • Blocked bile duct, gallstone attacks
  • Missed periods
  • Sleep apnea (pauses in breathing during sleep)
  • Problem with a muscle in the intestines that can cause severe upper stomach pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to oxycodone hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems, with too little oxygen or too much carbon dioxide in your blood.
  • Do not take if you have a severe long-term lung disease (COPD), heart problems due to lung overload, or severe asthma.
  • Do not take if you have a certain type of bowel blockage, sudden stomach pain, or slow bowel function.
  • This medicine contains an opioid and can lead to addiction. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned.

  • Do not use alcohol with this medicine. It can increase the risk of serious side effects like severe drowsiness or stopped breathing.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice as it can increase the medicine's effects.
  • Do not use during pregnancy unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary. It can cause withdrawal symptoms in newborns.
  • Do not use while breastfeeding, as the medicine passes into breast milk and can cause breathing problems for the baby.
  • This medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful.
