How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10-20 mg twice a day, every 12 hours. Your doctor may sometimes start you on a 5 mg dose to reduce side effects.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough water. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablets, as this can be dangerous. Take the medicine regularly, for example at 8 AM and 8 PM.

Important

Do not take more medicine than your doctor has prescribed. Also, do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.

  • Bowel problems (e.g., gas, difficulty swallowing, bowel obstruction, severe stomach pain due to a bowel muscle problem)

  • Erection problems or low sex hormones
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet
  • Withdrawal symptoms (such as thirst, chills, muscle aches, needing higher doses, feeling unwell)
  • Aggression
  • Increased sensitivity to pain
  • Sleep apnea (pauses in breathing during sleep)
  • Tooth decay
  • Absent periods in women
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Avoid use if you have severe breathing difficulties, severe asthma, or heart problems due to chronic lung disease.
  • Do not use if your bowel movements are paralyzed or significantly weakened.
  • Children under 12 years of age should not use this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause dependence and misuse; taking too much can be deadly.

  • Do not break, chew, crush, or dissolve tablets; this can cause a fatal overdose.
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice during treatment, as they can increase side effects.
  • Do not take with MAO inhibitors (a type of antidepressant) or within 2 weeks of using them.
  • Be careful when taking with other medicines that slow brain function (like sedatives or some antidepressants) as this can lead to serious breathing problems or coma.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
