How to Use

Dosage

Take the prescribed number of prolonged-release tablets twice daily; the usual starting dose is 10–20 mg every 12 hours, with some patients starting at 5 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough liquid. Do not chew, crush, or break them.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, headache, and drowsiness
  • Constipation, vomiting, and nausea
  • Itching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mood and personality changes (e.g., anxiety, depression, nervousness, sleep difficulties, abnormal thoughts, confusion)
  • Tremors
  • Shortness of breath
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth
  • Rash, excessive sweating
  • Unusual weakness, fatigue
  • Lethargy
RARE
  • Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction)
  • Dehydration
  • Agitation, hallucinations, mood swings, euphoria, decreased libido, drug dependence
  • Memory loss, seizures, involuntary muscle contractions, muscle stiffness, reduced sensation or pain sensitivity, numbness, speech difficulties, fainting, taste changes
  • Pupil constriction, visual disturbances
  • Vertigo (dizziness)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (with withdrawal symptoms)
  • Blood vessel dilation
  • Respiratory depression (slow, shallow breathing)
  • Gastrointestinal issues (e.g., abdominal discomfort, flatulence, difficulty swallowing, bowel obstruction, belching)
  • Elevated liver enzymes
  • Dry skin
  • Urinary retention, inability to empty bladder completely
  • Erectile dysfunction, abnormal sex hormone production
  • Swelling in hands, ankles, and feet, thirst, withdrawal symptoms (e.g., chills, need for higher doses for pain relief, feeling unwell)
  • Low blood pressure, low blood pressure when standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Hives

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing difficulties or asthma.
  • Do not use if your bowel movements are paralyzed or significantly weakened.
  • Children under 12 years of age should not use this medicine.
  • This medicine contains an opioid (oxycodone), which can cause dependence.

  • Do not consume alcohol or grapefruit juice during treatment.
  • This medicine can impair your ability to drive and operate machinery; do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy.
  • Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
