How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10–20 mg twice a day (every 12 hours); for some, a 5 mg starting dose might be better.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough liquid. Do not chew, crush, or break them, as this can cause a life-threatening overdose.

Important

Do not take more medicine than your doctor has prescribed, and do not take doses more often than every 12 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, headache, or feeling sleepy
  • Constipation, feeling sick (nausea), or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Itching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mood changes (like anxiety, sadness, trouble sleeping, or confusion)
  • Shaking (tremors)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion, or dry mouth
  • Skin rash or sweating a lot
  • Feeling unusually weak, tired, or sluggish
RARE
  • Allergic reactions or dehydration
  • Feeling agitated, seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), mood swings, feeling overly happy, or decreased sex drive
  • Memory loss, fits (seizures), unusual muscle movements, changes in how you feel pain or touch, or trouble speaking
  • Fainting or changes in taste
  • Small pupils or problems with vision
  • Vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure or feeling dizzy when standing up
  • Slow or shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Stomach problems like gas, difficulty swallowing, or bowel blockage
  • Dry skin or hives
  • Difficulty emptying your bladder
  • Erectile dysfunction or low sex hormones
  • Swelling in hands, ankles, and feet, thirst, or feeling unwell
  • Aggressiveness or increased pain sensitivity
  • Sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep)
  • Tooth decay or missed periods
  • Severe upper stomach pain (due to a problem with a muscle in your gut)
  • Withdrawal symptoms in newborns (if taken during pregnancy)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe breathing problems or asthma.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 12 years of age.
  • This medicine contains oxycodone, an opioid, which can cause dependence.
  • Never chew, crush, or break the tablets, as this can be life-threatening.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
