Oxycodone Vitabalans is a strong opioid pain reliever used to treat severe pain in adults and children 12 years and older that can only be managed with opioids.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children 12 years and older is 5 mg every 6 hours; your doctor may shorten the interval to 4 hours if needed.

Method

Swallow the film-coated tablets whole with enough liquid (e.g., half a glass of water), as directed by your doctor. You can take the tablets with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 6 times per day.

  • Long-term use of Oxycodone Vitabalans during pregnancy can cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in newborns, such as irritability, hyperactivity, abnormal sleep patterns, high-pitched crying, tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, and failure to gain weight.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems or too little oxygen/too much carbon dioxide in your blood.
  • Do not take if you have severe lung disease or severe asthma.
  • Do not take if you have a bowel blockage (paralytic ileus), severe stomach pain, or if your stomach empties too slowly.
  • This medicine contains an opioid and can cause addiction.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase drowsiness and the risk of severe side effects like shallow breathing, breathing stopping, and loss of consciousness.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice, as it can increase the effect of oxycodone.
  • Avoid using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding if possible.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
