This medicine is a strong pain reliever (opioid) used for severe pain in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older, when other pain medicines are not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

Start with 5 mg every 6 hours.

Method

Swallow the tablets with enough liquid, like half a glass of water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 6 times per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, headache
  • Constipation, nausea, vomiting
  • Itching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anxiety, confusion, depression, feeling very happy, trouble sleeping, nervousness, unusual thoughts, tiredness
  • Tremor
  • Shortness of breath, severe breathing difficulties, wheezing
  • Dry mouth, stomach pain, diarrhea, belching, indigestion
  • Rash, increased sweating
  • Urination problems
  • Feeling weak
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions, fluid retention, dehydration
  • Agitation, mood swings, decreased sex drive, personality changes, hallucinations, vision problems, abnormal hearing, drug dependence
  • Memory loss, seizures, changes in muscle tone, reduced sensitivity to pain or touch, muscle twitching, speech problems, fainting, tingling or numbness, taste disorders, poor muscle coordination
  • Changes in tear production, narrowed pupils, blurred vision
  • Vertigo or spinning sensation
  • Fast, irregular pulse, abnormal heart rhythm
  • Widening of blood vessels
  • Increased coughing, sore throat, runny nose, voice changes
  • Difficulty swallowing, mouth sores, gum or mouth inflammation, gas
  • Increased liver enzymes
  • Difficulty urinating, erectile dysfunction
  • Chills, accidental injuries, pain (e.g., chest pain), general feeling of unwellness, swollen hands, ankles or feet, migraine, withdrawal symptoms, drug tolerance, thirst
  • Abnormal secretion of antidiuretic hormone
  • Swollen lymph nodes, muscle spasms, low blood pressure (especially when standing up, causing dizziness or fainting)
  • Bleeding gums, increased appetite, black stools, tooth discoloration or damage, bowel obstruction
  • Dry skin, herpes infection, increased sensitivity to light
  • Blood in urine, absence of menstruation, weight changes, cellulitis
  • Hives or peeling rash
  • Aggression, increased pain sensitivity, sleep apnea, dental cavities
  • Inflammation causing stomach pain or diarrhea (cholestasis), severe gallstone pain (gallstone colic)
  • Problem with an intestinal sphincter muscle causing severe upper abdominal pain (Oddi's sphincter dysfunction)
  • Life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in newborns if used during pregnancy (irritability, hyperactivity, abnormal sleep, high-pitched crying, tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, failure to gain weight)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have very slow or shallow breathing, low oxygen in your blood, or too much carbon dioxide in your blood.
  • Do not take if you have severe lung disease, severe asthma, or other serious breathing problems.
  • Do not take if you have heart problems caused by long-term lung disease.
  • Do not take if your bowels are blocked, you have severe stomach pain, or your stomach empties very slowly.

  • This medicine contains oxycodone, which is an opioid. It can cause dependence or addiction. Use exactly as prescribed to lower this risk.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase side effects like severe drowsiness and breathing problems.
  • Avoid using this medicine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as it can harm the baby.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
