How to Use

Dosage

For adults and young people over 12, the usual starting dose is one 5 mg capsule every 6 hours. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with enough water. You can take them with or without food, but never with alcohol.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose based on your health and pain. Do not take two doses within 4 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired, sleepy, or dizzy
  • Headache
  • Constipation, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dry mouth, or loss of appetite
  • Itching, rash, or increased sweating
  • Mood changes (e.g., feeling sad or anxious), feeling restless, sleep problems, or confusion
  • Trembling or hiccups
  • Feeling weak
RARE
  • Allergic reactions or dehydration
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), feeling unreal, or changes in sex drive
  • Muscle problems (e.g., stiffness, weakness, twitching, or seizures), coordination problems, speech problems, or fainting
  • Tingling, reduced sensation, migraine, or memory loss
  • Changes in vision (e.g., small pupils or blurred vision)
  • Sensitivity to sound, vertigo (spinning sensation), or fast heartbeat
  • More breathing problems, cough, sore throat, or voice changes
  • Difficulty swallowing, mouth sores, gum inflammation, burping, or blocked bowels
  • Dry skin, itchy rash (hives), or sensitivity to light
  • Difficulty urinating or blood in urine
  • Impotence or low sex hormone levels
  • Pain (e.g., chest pain), chills, swelling, general feeling of being unwell, or thirst
  • Physical dependence, withdrawal symptoms, or increased drug tolerance
  • Herpes simplex (cold sores) or lymph node swelling
  • Increased appetite or low blood pressure (especially when standing up)
  • Bleeding gums, black stools, or tooth damage
  • Weight changes or skin inflammation (cellulitis)
  • Scaly rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to oxycodone hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe breathing problems, too little oxygen, or too much carbon dioxide in your blood.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe lung disease or paralyzed bowels (ileus).
  • This medicine can cause dependence or addiction; use only as directed by your doctor.
  • Never inject the contents of the capsules into a vein, as this can be life-threatening.

  • This medicine can cause sleep-related breathing problems. Talk to your doctor if you experience symptoms.
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice during treatment, as they can increase side effects.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor deems it absolutely necessary.
  • This medicine impairs your ability to drive and operate machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
