How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 1 tablet (5 mg) twice a day. For elderly and children over 5 years, the usual starting dose is half a tablet (2.5 mg) 2-3 times a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole or halved with a glass of liquid, as it may taste unpleasant.

Important

Adults can take up to 4 tablets (20 mg) per day. For elderly and children over 5, the maximum is 3 tablets (15 mg) per day.

  • Worsened eyesight, difficulty focusing
  • Dilated pupils, increased eye pressure, narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Reduced sweating, heatstroke
  • Allergic reactions like rash, hives, or sudden swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxybutynin hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have trouble urinating, for example due to an enlarged prostate.
  • Do not use if you have glaucoma (a condition with high eye pressure) or a shallow anterior chamber of the eye.
  • Do not use if you have narrowing of the digestive tract.
  • Do not use if you have severe ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon (enlarged colon), a very slow bowel, or paralytic ileus (bowel obstruction).

  • Do not use if you have slow stomach emptying.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney problems.
  • Do not use if you have a muscle weakness condition called myasthenia gravis.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience sudden vision loss or eye pain, as oxybutynin can cause narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience central nervous system effects like hallucinations, agitation, confusion, or drowsiness.
  • This medicine can reduce sweating and make you less tolerant to heat, so be careful in warm conditions or if you have a fever.
  • Avoid alcohol as it can increase drowsiness caused by this medicine.
  • Do not use during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause vision problems, dizziness, or drowsiness, which may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking it.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
