How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose for adults is 5 mg (10 ml) into the bladder in the morning and evening. This can be increased to 5 mg (10 ml) three times a day or 10 mg (20 ml) twice a day if needed.

Method

This medicine is given directly into your bladder through a catheter after your bladder is empty. A saline solution is then administered through the same catheter before it's removed. Your bladder should be emptied every 4 hours.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 20 mg (40 ml).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxybutynin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis, a rare condition causing muscle weakness and fatigue.
  • Do not use if you have narrow-angle glaucoma or a shallow front chamber of the eye.
  • Do not use if you have a bowel obstruction or if your bowels are not working properly.
  • Do not use if you have severe ulcerative colitis, ileostomy, colostomy, or toxic megacolon (a severely enlarged colon).

  • Do not use if you have difficulty urinating or if your bladder does not empty completely.
  • Do not use if you have frequent nighttime urination due to heart or kidney disease.
  • Elderly people and children may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine.
  • Oxybutynin treatment may reduce sweating, increasing the risk of heatstroke in high temperatures.
  • Oxybutynin can cause a type of glaucoma. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience eye pain or sudden blurred vision.
  • Long-term use increases the risk of lower urinary tract infections. Any infections that occur should be treated with antibiotics.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene, as dry mouth from oxybutynin increases the risk of tooth decay.
  • This medicine can slow down bowel movements, affect alertness, and cause anxiety, restlessness, or sleep problems. The risk is lower when given directly into the bladder compared to oral intake.
