Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy, dizzy, or having a headache.
  • Constipation, feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), stomach pain, dry mouth, heartburn, or diarrhea.
  • Itching, skin rash, or sweating a lot.
  • Less desire to eat or feeling weak.
  • Feeling anxious, confused, depressed, having trouble sleeping, feeling nervous, strange thoughts, or shaking (tremor).
  • Shortness of breath or tightness in the chest.
RARE
  • Serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
  • Feeling very restless, mood swings, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), feeling overly happy (euphoria), memory loss, aggression.
  • Seizures, high blood pressure, low blood pressure (especially when standing up), numbness, uncontrolled muscle twitching, speech problems, passing out, strange sensations (tingling, pricking), changes in taste or vision, small pupils.
  • Fast heartbeats, very slow breathing (respiratory depression), breathing pauses during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Difficulty swallowing, gas, burping, slow bowel movement (ileus), changes in liver test results, dry skin, trouble urinating.
  • Erectile problems, chills, withdrawal symptoms, generally feeling unwell, swelling, increased thirst, increased pain sensitivity, hives, missed periods, changes in hormone levels (like cortisol, testosterone, prolactin).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Oxanest if you are allergic to oxycodone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems or low oxygen levels.
  • Do not use if you have a heart condition caused by high blood pressure in the lungs.
  • Do not use if you have a blocked bowel.
  • Do not use if you are in a coma.

  • This medicine contains oxycodone, an opioid, which can lead to dependence and addiction.
  • Avoid alcohol as it can increase the harmful effects of Oxanest.
  • Do not use Oxanest during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or operate machines, as this medicine can make you drowsy and impair your abilities.
  • Using Oxanest with sedatives (like certain anxiety or sleep medicines) can be life-threatening. Only use together if your doctor says it's absolutely necessary.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
