How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your height and weight, usually 85 mg per square meter of your body surface.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow drip into a vein, which takes 2-6 hours. It is given with another medicine called folinic acid, before giving 5-fluorouracil.

Important

There is no daily dose; this medicine is given as an infusion every two weeks.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Numbness or tingling in your fingers, toes, around your mouth, or in your throat, sometimes with cramps.
  • An uncomfortable feeling at the injection site during the drip.
  • Fever, chills, mild to severe tiredness, body pain.
  • Changes in weight, loss of appetite, changes in taste, constipation.
  • Stomach ache.
  • Unusual bleeding, including nosebleeds.
  • Mild hair loss.
RARE
  • Worsening of hearing.
  • Scarring and thickening of the lungs, causing breathing difficulties, which can sometimes be life-threatening.
  • Temporary loss of vision.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising due to widespread blood clots in small blood vessels, which can be life-threatening.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Oxaliplatin Accord if you are allergic to oxaliplatin, any other ingredients in this medicine, or to other platinum-containing medicines.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you already have a low number of blood cells.
  • Do not use if you already have severe tingling, numbness in your fingers and/or toes, or difficulty with fine motor skills like buttoning clothes.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems.

  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction like a sudden rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other body parts, trouble swallowing or breathing, wheezing, or extreme tiredness (feeling like you might faint).
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you get unusual bruising, bleeding, or signs of infection like a sore throat and high fever.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience new or worsening tingling, numbness, or weakness in your hands or feet during treatment.
