Orloc is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain (angina pectoris), and heart failure by slowing the heart rate and making it pump more efficiently.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 5 mg tablet or half a 10 mg tablet (equal to 5 mg bisoprolol) once daily for high blood pressure and angina pectoris.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water in the morning, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg of bisoprolol.

Possible Side Effects

  • Dizziness, headache
  • Cold or numb hands and feet
  • Stomach problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation)

  • Depression, sleep problems
  • Very slow heart rate, heart rhythm problems, worsening heart failure (shortness of breath, swelling)
  • Low blood pressure when standing (dizziness, fainting)
  • Narrowing of airways (trouble breathing)
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps, feeling weak
  • Hallucinations, nightmares
  • Fainting
  • Dry eyes (reduced tear flow)
  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Skin reactions (itching, redness, rash)
  • Hearing problems
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Changes in blood fats (triglycerides) and liver enzymes, liver inflammation
  • Eye inflammation (conjunctivitis)
  • New or worsening psoriasis, psoriasis-like rash
  • Hair loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Orloc if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not take Orloc if you have severe asthma or severe blood circulation problems in your arms and legs (like Raynaud's syndrome).
  • Never stop taking Orloc suddenly without talking to your doctor, especially if you have heart disease, as this can make your condition much worse.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, kidney or liver problems, or are undergoing desensitization therapy (e.g., for hay fever), as Orloc may increase the risk of an allergic reaction.
  • Orloc may affect how your body reacts to anesthesia; inform your doctor or dentist if you are scheduled for surgery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider interactions , especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
