How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 120 mg capsule with each of your three main meals per day.

Method

Take the capsule just before, during, or up to one hour after each main meal. Swallow it whole with water.

Important

Do not take more than three 120 mg capsules in a single day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach ache or discomfort in the stomach area
  • Urgent or increased need to go to the toilet
  • Gas with oily discharge
  • Oily spots on your underwear
  • Oily or fatty stools
  • Liquid stools
  • Low blood sugar (in some patients with type 2 diabetes)
  • Pain or discomfort in your rectum (back passage)
  • Soft stools
  • Inability to control bowel movements
  • Bloating (in some patients with type 2 diabetes)
  • Gum or tooth problems
  • Irregular menstrual bleeding
  • Tiredness
RARE
  • Bleeding from your rectum
  • Inflammation of the large intestine (diverticulitis), with symptoms like lower stomach pain (especially on the left side), possibly fever and constipation.
  • Severe stomach pain caused by gallstones.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), with symptoms like yellowing skin/eyes, itching, dark urine, stomach pain, tenderness in the liver area (pain under the right rib cage), sometimes loss of appetite.
  • Skin blisters (including ones that burst).
  • Pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis), with symptoms like severe stomach pain that may spread to your back, possibly fever, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Kidney stones caused by oxalate buildup (calcium oxalate accumulation).
  • Effects on blood coagulation when taking anticoagulants.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to orlistat or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a chronic problem absorbing nutrients from food.
  • Do not use if you have cholestasis (a liver condition).
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy without consulting your doctor.

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines, as Orlistat Stada can affect how they work (e.g., blood thinners, cyclosporine, thyroid medicines, epilepsy medicines, HIV medicines, antidepressants, and vitamin absorption).
  • If you experience severe diarrhea, use an additional method of contraception to prevent your birth control from failing.
  • If you have kidney problems, tell your doctor as orlistat may cause kidney stones.
  • This medicine is not for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Orlistat Stada is not recommended if you are taking acarbose (a medicine for type 2 diabetes).
  • Stop taking the capsules and get immediate medical help if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction like severe breathing difficulties, sweating, rash, itching, swelling of the face, fast pulse, or fainting.
