How to Use

Dosage

Take one capsule three times a day.

Method

Take one capsule with each main meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner), either just before, during, or up to one hour after the meal, and swallow it whole with water. Do not take a capsule if a meal is skipped or contains no fat.

Important

Do not take more than three capsules a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Gas with oily spotting.
  • Sudden need to have a bowel movement.
  • Oily or fatty stools.
  • Loose stools.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Difficulty controlling bowel movements (fecal incontinence).
  • Liquid stools.
  • Increased need to pass stools.
  • Anxiety.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (symptoms like severe breathing difficulties, sweating, rash, itching, facial swelling, fast heartbeat, or loss of consciousness). Seek immediate medical help.
  • Bleeding from the rectum.
  • Diverticulitis (inflammation of the large intestine), which may cause lower abdominal pain (especially on the left side), possibly with fever and constipation.
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), with symptoms like severe abdominal pain sometimes radiating to the back, possibly with fever, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Skin blisters (including bursting blisters).
  • Severe abdominal pain caused by gallstones.
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation), with symptoms like yellow skin and eyes, itching, dark urine, abdominal pain, tenderness in the liver area (pain under the right ribs), and sometimes loss of appetite.
  • Oxalate nephropathy (calcium oxalate accumulation, which can lead to kidney stones).
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood tests.
  • Effects on blood clotting in people taking warfarin or other blood thinners.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to orlistat or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you are taking ciclosporin (used after organ transplants, for severe arthritis, or severe skin conditions).
  • Do not take if you are taking warfarin or other blood thinning medicines.
  • Do not take if you have a condition where bile flow from the liver is blocked (cholestasis) or if you have a problem with food absorption (chronic malabsorption syndrome).

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as your diabetes medication may need to be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as orlistat can cause kidney stones in some people.
  • If you have not lost weight after 12 weeks of using Orlistat Sandoz, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You may need to stop using the medicine.
