Orisantin is a medicine that helps prevent blood clots and reduces the risk of strokes or mini-strokes (TIA) caused by blood clots in the brain.

How to Use

Dosage

One capsule twice a day, usually in the morning and in the evening.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two capsules, as prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache (often mild at first and improves with continued treatment)
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Indigestion or diarrhea
  • Brain bleeding
  • Stomach or intestinal bleeding
  • Nosebleed
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Worsening of heart disease symptoms
  • Migraine
  • Vomiting
  • Muscle pain
  • Fainting
RARE
  • Bleeding in the eye
  • Increased heart rate
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hot flashes
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Thrombocytopenia (a blood disorder that can cause bruising or prolonged bleeding)
  • Stomach inflammation
  • Anemia from internal stomach bleeding

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dipyridamole, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), any other ingredient in this medicine, or to peanuts or soy.
  • Do not use if you have a history of bleeding in the brain, or current stomach or intestinal ulcers, or other bleeding disorders.
  • Avoid if you have severe kidney or liver problems, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or are taking methotrexate at doses above 15 mg per week.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have a higher risk of bleeding, asthma, heart conditions, or are scheduled for surgery. Do not use for children, during pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
