Orbeos is a medicine called a statin that helps control fat levels in your blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides, especially when diet and lifestyle changes are not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children aged 10 and older is 10 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow Orbeos tablets whole with water. You can take them at any time of day, with or without food. Try to take the tablet at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Orbeos is 80 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation of nasal passages, sore throat, nosebleeds.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Increased blood sugar levels (monitor closely if you have diabetes), increased creatine kinase levels in blood.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain.
  • Abnormal liver function test results.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, which can lead to breathing difficulties.
  • Severe skin condition with peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering on the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, and fever; rash with pinkish-red, possibly blistering patches, especially on palms or soles.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, or rupture, or reddish-brown urine. If you also feel unwell or have a high fever, these symptoms may be due to abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can be life-threatening and cause kidney damage.
  • Visual disturbances.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising.
  • Bile duct blockage (yellowing of skin and whites of eyes).
  • Tendon injury.
  • Possible skin rash or mouth sores (lichenoid drug reaction).
  • Purple skin lesions (signs of blood vessel inflammation or vasculitis).
  • Hearing loss.
  • Gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue in men).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have or have had a liver disease, or if you have unexplained abnormal liver blood test results.
  • Do not take if you are a woman of childbearing age and are not using reliable birth control.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you are using glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for Hepatitis C treatment.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe lung disease.
  • If you are taking or have taken fusidic acid (an antibiotic) in the last 7 days, inform your doctor, as this combination can cause severe muscle problems.
  • Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not drink more than 1-2 small glasses of grapefruit juice daily, as large amounts can affect how Orbeos works.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience persistent muscle weakness.
  • Do not drive or use machines if this medicine affects your ability to do so.
