Orbeos is a statin medicine that helps lower high levels of fats (like cholesterol and triglycerides) in your blood, especially when diet and lifestyle changes aren't enough, or to reduce the risk of heart disease even with normal cholesterol levels.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children 10 years and older is 10 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose as needed, adjusting it at intervals of 4 weeks or more.

Method

Swallow Orbeos tablets whole with water. You can take them at any time of day, with or without food, but try to take them at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Orbeos is 80 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation of nasal passages, sore throat, nosebleed.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Increased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, continue careful blood sugar monitoring), increased levels of creatine kinase in the blood.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain.
  • Abnormal liver function test results.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, which may lead to breathing difficulties.
  • Severe skin condition with peeling and swelling, blisters on skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, along with fever. Rash with pink-red, possibly blistering spots, especially on palms or soles.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, rupture, or red-brown urine. These symptoms, especially with feeling unwell or high fever, may indicate abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can be life-threatening and lead to kidney damage, even if you stop taking atorvastatin.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Orbeos if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Orbeos if you have or have had a liver disease, or if your liver function blood tests have shown unexplained abnormal results.
  • Women who could become pregnant must use reliable contraception while taking Orbeos.
  • Do not take Orbeos if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take Orbeos if you are using glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for hepatitis C treatment.

  • Tell your doctor if you have taken fusidic acid (for bacterial infections) in the last 7 days, as combining it with Orbeos can cause severe muscle problems.
  • Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not drink more than 1-2 small glasses of grapefruit juice per day, as large amounts can affect how Orbeos works.
  • If you have diabetes or are at risk of developing it, your doctor will monitor you closely.
  • Do not drive or use machines if this medicine affects your ability to do so.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
