How to Use

Dosage

Take one capsule every morning.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water, on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal; make sure to take it while sitting or standing to avoid throat irritation.

Important

Do not take more than one capsule per day.

  • Increased pressure in the brain
  • Inflammation around the heart
  • Feeling sick, throwing up, diarrhea, loss of appetite
  • Liver damage
  • Rash or itchy skin bumps (hives)
  • Skin sensitivity to light (sunburns more easily)
  • Increased urea levels in blood
  • Severe allergic reactions with swelling of eyes, lips, or tongue
  • Yeast infection around the anus or genitals
  • Red blood cell damage (anemia)
  • Black-brown discoloration in thyroid tissue (usually with normal thyroid function)
  • Increased pressure in the brain in children
  • Tongue inflammation
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Intestine inflammation
  • Esophagus inflammation or ulcers
  • Skin inflammation with peeling
  • Worsening of lupus (an autoimmune disease)
  • Nail detachment after sun exposure

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to doxycycline, other tetracycline medicines, or any other ingredients in Oracea.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, as it can harm the unborn baby by causing permanent tooth discoloration.
  • Do not use with oral retinoids (medicines for severe acne).
  • Do not use if you have a condition causing lack of stomach acid or have had upper intestinal surgery.
  • Not for children under 12 years old, as it can cause permanent tooth discoloration or development problems.

  • Oracea is not for treating bacterial infections.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you often get yeast infections or have one now in your mouth or vagina.
  • Tell your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disease).
  • Tell your doctor if you have colitis (inflammation in your large intestine).
  • Tell your doctor if you have irritation or sores in your esophagus (food pipe).
  • Tell your doctor if your rosacea affects your eyes.
  • Avoid strong sunlight or sunbeds, as Oracea can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Use sunscreen and protective clothing. Stop taking Oracea if you get a bad sunburn.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any sugar intolerance.
  • Do not take Oracea with milk or dairy products. Wait 2-3 hours after your dose before eating or drinking dairy.
  • See your doctor right away if you get severe or bloody diarrhea during or after treatment, as it could be a sign of serious gut inflammation.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. Protect yourself from excessive exposure to sunlight because of the risk of burning the skin. (updated 6.11.2023)
