How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is 1 gram of gel, applied to the eye surface, which is about one-third of the tube. More may be used if needed.

Method

A doctor will apply the gel to your eye and surrounding areas for 5 minutes before the procedure. Hold the tube downwards and gently squeeze out the gel to cover the eye surface. Let it work for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. Do not touch the eye with the tube tip.

Important

Do not use more than one tube per eye or per procedure. The gel can be reapplied to maintain the numbing effect if needed during a longer procedure.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Redness of the conjunctiva (white part of the eye)
  • Changes in the surface layer of the cornea
  • Burning sensation in the eye
  • Spotty inflammation of the cornea
  • Swelling of the cornea
  • Headache

Important Warnings

  • For use only on the surface of the eye.
  • Long-term use of this type of eye numbing medicine can cause the clear front part of your eye (cornea) to become cloudy.
  • This medicine is for single-use only and should be thrown away immediately after use.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to lidocaine, other local anesthetics, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Your vision may be blurry after using Ophtesic. Do not drive or use machines until your vision is clear again.
