How to Use

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Method

You can take the tablet with or without food, and it can be divided into equal halves.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose and treatment duration, which should generally be short.

  • restlessness, irritability, aggression, delusions, nightmares, hallucinations, psychoses, inappropriate behavior, sleepwalking, and other behavioral problems
  • itchy skin, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing or swallowing (signs of severe allergic reaction)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Opamox if you are allergic to oxazepam, other benzodiazepines, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Opamox if you have a long-term muscle weakness called myasthenia gravis.
  • Do not take Opamox if you have severe breathing problems or long-lasting pauses in breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Opamox, as it increases the medicine's effects.
  • Opamox can make you less alert and affect your ability to drive or operate machinery, especially at the start of treatment. Avoid these activities.

  • This medicine can cause dependence. The treatment duration should be kept as short as possible to reduce this risk.
  • Do not stop taking Opamox suddenly. The dose should be gradually reduced as advised by your doctor.
  • Taking Opamox with opioids (strong pain relievers, cough medicines) increases drowsiness and breathing problems, which can be dangerous.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have depression or suicidal thoughts, as Opamox should not be used as the only medicine for psychosis or depression.

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. For short-term use only. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
