How to Use

Dosage

Method

Take the tablet as directed by your doctor, either on an empty stomach or with food. You can divide the tablet into two equal halves.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fatigue or drowsiness.
RARE
  • Memory problems.
  • Headache, dizziness, coordination problems (ataxia).
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Yellow skin or whites of the eyes.
  • Unexpected mental reactions, such as restlessness, irritability, aggression, delusions, nightmares, hallucinations, psychoses, inappropriate behavior, sleepwalking, and other behavioral disturbances.
  • Changes in blood cell counts.
  • Changes in sexual desire.
  • Drop in blood pressure.
  • Stomach discomfort, dry mouth.
  • Rashes.
  • Urinary retention (difficulty urinating).
  • Itchy skin, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to oxazepam, other benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you have severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis).
  • If you have severe breathing problems or long pauses in breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • If another similar medicine has caused you unexpected agitation.
  • If you have depression or suicidal thoughts.

  • Do not use with opioids (strong pain relievers or certain cough medicines) without strict doctor supervision, as it can be life-threatening.
  • If you are elderly or frail, as this medicine can cause confusion and increase the risk of falls.
  • If you have severe liver problems.
  • If you have or have had a substance abuse problem (alcohol, medicine, or drug problem).
  • This medicine can cause dependence and become less effective with long-term use. Do not stop taking it suddenly; reduce the dose gradually as advised by your doctor.
  • You might experience memory loss a few hours after taking a dose. Sleep for 7-8 hours after taking the dose to reduce the risk.
  • This medicine can impair your ability to drive and operate machinery. Avoid these activities until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Do not drink alcohol during treatment, as it can increase the effects of the medicine.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. For short-term use only. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
