How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. For adults, it's typically 8 mg 1-2 hours before treatment, then 8 mg every 12 hours for up to 5 days. For children (6 months and older), it's usually up to 4 mg twice a day.

Method

Take the tablet out of the pack right before use by pushing it through the foil. Place the tablet on your tongue and let it fully dissolve. Do not chew. Swallow the dissolved medicine with your saliva.

Important

If you have moderate to severe liver problems, your total daily dose should not be more than 8 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Feeling warm or flushing
RARE
  • Irregular heartbeat, chest pain (may include ST-segment changes on ECG), or slow heart rate
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Seizures, movement disorders (like involuntary muscle movements, eye rolling, or uncontrolled body movements)
  • Hiccups
  • Low blood pressure
  • Immediate allergic reactions, sometimes severe (including anaphylaxis)
  • Dizziness during rapid intravenous injection (can often be prevented by slower infusion)
  • Temporary vision problems (like blurred vision) or vision disturbances during intravenous injection
  • Heart rhythm disorders (QTc prolongation, including Torsade de pointes), which can cause sudden loss of consciousness
  • Temporary vision loss, mainly during intravenous administration (vision usually returns within 20 minutes)
  • Lack of oxygen in the heart muscle (myocardial ischemia)
  • Sudden chest pain or a tight feeling in the chest

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ondansetron or any other ingredients in it, or to other anti-sickness medicines (like granisetron or dolasetron). Also, do not take if you are using apomorphine (a medicine for Parkinson's disease).
  • Do not use Ondansetron Stada during the first 3 months of pregnancy, as it might slightly increase the risk of your baby being born with a cleft lip or palate. If you are pregnant or planning to be, talk to your doctor.
  • It's not recommended to breastfeed while taking this medicine, as it may pass into breast milk.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a blocked bowel or severe constipation.

  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems (like heart failure, an irregular heartbeat, or abnormal levels of salts like potassium, sodium, or magnesium in your blood).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines for depression or anxiety (like SSRIs or SNRIs) or buprenorphine, as taking them with Ondansetron Stada can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you get sudden wheezing, chest pain or tightness, swelling of your eyelids, face, lips, mouth or tongue, a rash with red spots or hives anywhere on your body, or if you faint. These are signs of a severe allergic reaction.
