How to Use

Dosage

For adults, typically 4-8 mg before surgery or 8 mg 1-2 hours before cancer treatment, followed by another 8 mg later, and then 8 mg twice daily for up to 5 days. For children, the doctor will decide the dose.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

Important

Do not take more than 16 mg per day for adults. For children, the maximum daily dose is 8 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Feeling of warmth or flushing
  • Constipation
RARE
  • Convulsions
  • Movement disorders
  • Irregular or slow heartbeat
  • Chest pain
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hiccups
  • Changes in liver enzyme levels shown in blood tests
  • Severe allergic reactions, including rash, swelling of the face and mouth, trouble breathing, or fainting
  • Dizziness
  • Temporary blurred vision or vision problems
  • Temporary vision loss
  • Widespread blistering rash and skin peeling (a serious skin reaction)
  • Heart muscle problems (myocardial ischemia), with symptoms like sudden chest pain or a tight feeling in the chest

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are using apomorphine (for Parkinson's disease).
  • Do not take if you are allergic to ondansetron or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had heart problems, like an irregular heartbeat.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bowel problems or liver disease.
  • Do not use during the first three months of pregnancy as it may slightly increase the risk of cleft lip/palate in the baby. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception.

  • Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Ondansetron Stada.
  • If you have sugar intolerance (lactose), talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific cautions. May prolong the QT interval especially with other preparations prolonging QT. Take interactions into account. (updated 20.5.2024)
