How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will determine your dose. For adults, it's typically 8 mg. If you have severe liver problems, your dose will not be more than 8 mg per day.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine as a slow injection into a vein or muscle, or as a slow drip into a vein.

Important

The highest daily dose is 32 mg. For patients with moderate or severe liver problems, the daily dose should not be more than 8 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Feeling flushed or warm
  • Constipation
  • Skin redness
  • Irritation where the injection was given
RARE
  • Seizures or fits
  • Jerky or uncontrolled muscle movements
  • Heartbeat that is too fast, too slow, or not regular
  • Chest pain
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hiccups
  • Changes in liver function tests
  • Dizziness
  • Temporary blurry vision or changes in eyesight
  • Severe skin rash with blisters and peeling skin (like a bad burn)
  • Temporary loss of vision
  • Dry mouth
  • Heart muscle problems due to lack of oxygen, which may cause sudden chest pain or a tight feeling in the chest.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ondansetron or any other part of this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are taking apomorphine, a medicine for Parkinson's disease.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a severe allergic reaction, such as itchy rash, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever been allergic to other medicines for nausea and vomiting.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart problems or are taking heart medicines, as this medicine can affect your heart rhythm.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe constipation or a blocked bowel.
  • Let your doctor know if you have liver problems or are taking medicines that can harm your liver, as your liver will be monitored.
  • Inform your doctor if you are going to have tonsil surgery, as you will need close monitoring.
  • Tell your doctor if you have problems with the levels of salts in your blood, such as potassium or magnesium.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific cautions. May prolong the QT interval especially with other preparations prolonging QT. Take interactions into account. (updated 20.5.2024)
