Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies, asthma, or have reacted badly to iodine contrast agents before; the contrast agent will then be used with extra caution.
  • Rarely, severe allergic reactions can occur, which can be life-threatening; doctors and nurses are always prepared to help immediately if this happens.
  • You must drink enough fluids before and after the examination so your kidneys can remove the contrast agent from your body, especially if you have kidney problems, diabetes, or are very young or old.
  • If you have a severe heart condition or high blood pressure in your lungs, the contrast agent will be used with caution as it can affect your heart function.
  • Iodine contrast agents can affect thyroid function, especially in children under 3 years old; your doctor will check your thyroid function.
Show 2 more warnings
  • If you have diabetes and take metformin, your doctor may ask you to stop taking it before and after the examination to prevent a rare but serious side effect (lactic acidosis).
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for one hour after the injection, or for 24 hours if the contrast agent was given into your spinal fluid; ask your doctor if symptoms persist.
