How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on the type of examination and your health. Your doctor will decide the correct dose.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into a vein, artery, spinal fluid, or body cavities.

Important

For adults, the amount of iodine should not exceed 3 grams per day to avoid side effects.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Feeling warm
  • Temporary rise in kidney test results
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach pain
  • Pancreatitis
  • Pain after the procedure
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling, breathing problems)
  • Dizziness, confusion, restlessness
  • Seizures
  • Temporary metallic taste in mouth
  • Heart rhythm problems (fast or slow), chest pain, heart attack
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Swelling of salivary glands, iodism symptoms (pain in salivary glands)
  • Weakness, tiredness, fever, chills
  • Back or neck pain, muscle cramps
  • Blurred vision, temporary blindness or hearing loss
  • Reactions at injection site (pain, swelling, redness)
  • Stroke, paralysis or other brain or nerve problems
  • Inflammation of brain membranes (meningitis)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies, asthma, or have reacted to iodine-containing contrast agents before.
  • Serious, life-threatening reactions are rare but possible. Your doctor is prepared to treat them.
  • Make sure to drink enough fluids before and after the examination, especially if you have kidney problems.
  • This medicine can affect thyroid function. Your doctor will check your thyroid, especially in children.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for at least one hour after an injection or 24 hours after a spinal examination.
