How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on the type of test, your age, weight, and general health. Your doctor or nurse will determine the correct dose for you.

Method

This medicine is usually given as an injection into a vein, artery, or spine. It can also be given into other body cavities, rectally for children, or orally for adults.

Important

The total amount of iodine for adults should not exceed 3 grams. Your doctor will monitor this.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Warm sensation
  • Temporary changes in breathing, difficulty breathing
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain or discomfort at the injection site
RARE
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, hives, redness, swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, sneezing, and in severe cases, shock.
  • Temporary metallic taste in mouth.
  • Slow or fast heart rate, high or low blood pressure, chest pain, heart attack, heart failure, flushing, blood clots.
  • Severe skin reactions like blistering skin inflammation, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or other severe rashes.
  • Temporary kidney injury or increased kidney function markers in blood.
  • Swelling of salivary glands (iodism).
  • Confusion, agitation, restlessness, anxiety.
  • Dizziness, weakness (paresis), paralysis.
  • Seizures, changes in consciousness, stroke-like symptoms.
  • Memory loss, temporary speech problems (e.g., difficulty speaking, slurred speech).
  • Vision impairment (including double vision, blurred vision), sensitivity to light, temporary blindness.
  • Temporary hearing loss.
  • Cough, temporary stop in breathing, severe shortness of breath.
  • Joint pain, muscle weakness, muscle spasms, back pain.
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Weakness, fatigue, general unwell feeling.
  • Excessive sweating, chills, fever.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies, asthma, or have previously reacted to iodine-containing contrast agents.
  • If you have kidney disease or diabetes, you need to drink plenty of fluids before and after receiving the medicine. Your doctor may adjust other medications you are taking.
  • Inform your doctor if you have thyroid problems, as this medicine can affect thyroid function.
  • If you have a serious heart condition, your doctor will be extra careful, as this medicine can affect heart function.
  • If you have epilepsy, a brain tumor, or other neurological issues, you are more prone to seizures or other reactions.

  • Do not drive or operate machinery for one hour after injection, or for 24 hours if the medicine was given into the spine.
