How to Use

Dosage

Take one 20 mg capsule or two 10 mg capsules once a day for 14 days.

Method

Take the capsules in the morning, either with food or on an empty stomach. Swallow the capsules whole with half a glass of water; do not chew or crush them, as they contain coated pellets that protect the medicine from stomach acid.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach and gut problems: diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, gas
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Benign stomach polyps
RARE
  • Swelling of feet and ankles
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Dizziness, tingling, sleepiness
  • Vertigo
  • Changes in blood tests showing liver function
  • Rash, hives, and itchy skin
  • General feeling of being unwell and lack of energy
  • Changes in blood count (reduced white blood cells or platelets, causing weakness, bruising, or infection risk)
  • Allergic reactions (severe swelling of lips, tongue, throat, fever, wheezing)
  • Low sodium levels in blood (weakness, nausea, convulsions)
  • Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
  • Taste changes
  • Vision problems (blurred vision)
  • Sudden wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Dry mouth
  • Mouth inflammation
  • Oral thrush (fungal infection)
  • Liver problems (jaundice, dark urine, fatigue)
  • Hair loss
  • Rash from sunlight exposure
  • Joint pain or muscle pain
  • Severe kidney problems (kidney failure)
  • Increased sweating
  • Changes in blood count (lack of white blood cells)
  • Aggression
  • Hallucinations
  • Severe liver problems (liver failure or brain inflammation)
  • Sudden severe rash, blistering or peeling skin (Erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Enlargement of breasts in men
  • Inflammation of the intestine (causing diarrhea)
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood
  • Rash, possibly with associated joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Omeprazol SanoSwiss for more than 14 days without talking to a doctor.
  • Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not get better or if they get worse after 14 days.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to omeprazole or any other proton pump inhibitors (like pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole).
  • Do not use if you are taking medicines containing nelfinavir (for HIV infection).
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash with blistering or peeling, fever, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

  • Talk to your doctor right away if you notice any of these symptoms before or during treatment: unexplained weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting food or blood, black (bloody) stools, severe or ongoing diarrhea, jaundice (yellow skin/eyes), new or changed symptoms if you are over 55, or if you've had a skin reaction to similar medicines before.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience kidney problems like less urine, blood in urine, fever, rash, or stiff joints.
  • If you get a rash on skin exposed to sunlight, tell your doctor as soon as possible, as treatment may need to be stopped.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
