How to Use

Dosage

Typically 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks, but your doctor will decide the correct dose based on your condition and age.

Method

Take the capsules whole with water in the morning, either with food or on an empty stomach. Do not chew or crush them.

Important

The maximum dose is typically 60 mg per day, as directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach and gut problems (diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, gas)
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Benign stomach polyps
RARE
  • Swelling of feet and ankles
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Dizziness, tingling, numbness, sleepiness, spinning sensation
  • Changes in liver function blood tests
  • Rash, hives, and itching
  • General feeling of illness and lack of energy
  • Wrist, hip, or spine fractures
  • Blood changes (such as fewer white blood cells or platelets)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
  • Taste changes
  • Vision problems (such as blurred vision)
  • Sudden wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Dry mouth
  • Mouth inflammation
  • Yeast infection in the mouth (thrush)
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Sun-induced rash
  • Joint pain (arthralgia) or muscle pain (myalgia)
  • Severe kidney problems (interstitial nephritis)
  • Increased sweating
  • Severe liver problems (liver failure or brain inflammation)
  • Aggression
  • Hallucinations

  • Enlarged breasts in men

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to omeprazole or other similar medicines.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a rash, blisters, fever, or difficulty swallowing.
  • This medicine can hide symptoms of other illnesses. Contact your doctor if you lose a lot of weight, vomit blood, have black stools, or severe diarrhea.
  • Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures.
  • Not recommended for children under 1 year of age or weighing less than 10 kg.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
