How to Use

Dosage

One 40 mg/12.5 mg tablet once daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to one 40 mg/25 mg tablet if your blood pressure is not controlled enough.

Method

Swallow the tablet with water. Take it at the same time each day, preferably with breakfast.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, headache, weakness, fatigue
  • Swelling in ankles, feet, legs, hands, or arms
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach or abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating
  • Cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose
  • Joint, bone, or back pain
  • Flu-like symptoms, general pain
  • Blood in urine, urinary tract infections
  • Confusion
RARE
  • Heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat
  • Skin rash, eczema, hives, itching
  • Muscle cramps or muscle weakness
  • Erectile dysfunction in men
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), dark urine
  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing, low blood pressure)
  • Intestinal obstruction (severe abdominal pain, vomiting)
  • Acute respiratory distress (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion)
  • Blurred vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure
  • Decreased appetite, malaise, restlessness, low mood/depression, sleep problems, apathy, tingling/numbness, seizures
  • Yellow vision, decreased tear production
  • Blood vessel inflammation, blood clots
  • Lung inflammation, fluid in lungs
  • Pancreatitis, gallbladder inflammation
  • Lupus-like reactions (rash, joint pain, cold hands/fingers), allergic skin reactions (peeling/blistering skin), non-infectious kidney inflammation

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to olmesartan medoxomil, hydrochlorothiazide, other ingredients in this medicine, or similar medicines called sulfonamides.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant or planning to get pregnant, as it can seriously harm your baby.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney problems or severe liver problems, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), or bile flow problems.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or impaired kidney function and are taking a blood pressure medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Long-term use of hydrochlorothiazide, especially in high doses, may increase the risk of certain skin and lip cancers. Protect your skin from sun exposure.

  • If you experience a sudden, severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, mouth/throat, itching, rash, difficulty breathing), stop the medicine and seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you feel dizzy or faint (due to low blood pressure), stop the medicine and seek immediate medical attention. Lie down flat.
  • If you experience blurred vision or eye pain, seek immediate medical attention. These can be signs of high eye pressure that could lead to permanent vision loss.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe, prolonged diarrhea that leads to significant weight loss.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you get stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after taking this medicine.
