How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is one 10 mg tablet once a day. Your doctor may increase this to 20 mg or 40 mg daily if needed, or prescribe additional medication. For patients with kidney problems, the maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

Method

You can take the tablet with or without food. Swallow it whole with enough water, like a glass of water. Try to take your dose at the same time each day, for example, with breakfast.

Important

Do not exceed 40 mg per day. If you have kidney problems, do not exceed 20 mg per day.

RARE
  • Allergic reactions that cause swelling of the face, mouth, or throat, trouble breathing, or fainting.
  • Dizziness (a spinning sensation)
  • Vomiting
  • Feeling unwell
  • Weakness
  • Muscle pain
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Chest pain (like angina, due to heart not getting enough oxygen)
  • Lack of energy
  • Muscle cramps
  • Kidney problems, including kidney failure
  • Swelling in the gut (angioedema), which can cause stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to olmesartan medoxomil or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can cause serious harm to your baby. Avoid during early pregnancy too.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have yellow skin or eyes (jaundice) or problems with bile flow from your gallbladder (e.g., gallstones).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are treated with another blood pressure lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor right away if you experience severe, long-lasting diarrhea leading to significant weight loss.

  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor right away if you get swelling of your face, mouth, and/or throat with itching and rash, as this could be a serious allergic reaction.
  • Stop taking this medicine and lie down, then contact your doctor right away if you experience severe dizziness or fainting, as this could be due to very low blood pressure.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you notice yellowing of the whites of your eyes, dark urine, or itchy skin, as these could be signs of liver problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
