How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact dose based on your age, weight, and health condition.

Method

Olimel N9E is given as an infusion into a large vein in your chest through a tube called a catheter. The medicine should be at room temperature when given, and one bag usually takes 12 to 24 hours to infuse. It is for single use only.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 35 ml per kg of body weight. For children over 2 years, your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Loss of appetite
  • High fat levels in blood
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • High blood pressure
RARE
  • Fat overload syndrome (sudden illness from body not clearing fats, symptoms include fever, pale skin, weakness, breathing difficulty, increased risk of infection, bruising/bleeding, blood clotting problems, very high fat levels in blood, fat in liver, liver problems, or coma)
  • Allergic reactions (sweating, fever, chills, headache, rash, itching, hot flushes, breathing difficulties)
  • Leaking at the infusion site (pain, irritation, swelling, redness, warmth, skin damage, or blisters)
  • Vomiting
  • Abnormal liver function blood tests
  • Problems with bile flow (cholestasis)
  • Liver disease from intravenous feeding
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • High nitrogen levels in blood
  • High liver enzyme levels
  • Small particles blocking blood vessels in lungs (causing blood clots and breathing problems)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Olimel N9E if you are allergic to egg, soy, peanut, corn, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • This medicine is not for premature babies, infants, or children under 2 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver problems, blood clotting issues, adrenal gland problems, heart failure, lung disease, or conditions affecting your body's fluids (too much or too little).
  • Do not use Olimel N9E if your blood fat or blood sugar levels are too high, or if you have abnormally high levels of certain electrolytes (like sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, or phosphate) in your blood.
  • Infusion given too quickly can be dangerous. Your doctor will monitor the speed.

  • Stop the infusion immediately and tell your doctor or nurse if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, such as sweating, fever, chills, headache, rash, or trouble breathing.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you have trouble breathing, as this could be a sign of small particles blocking blood vessels in your lungs.
  • Do not mix Olimel N9E with the antibiotic ceftriaxone, ampicillin, or fosphenytoin in the same infusion line, as this can cause harmful particles to form.
  • Do not give Olimel N9E through the same line as blood.
  • Olimel N9E can only be given into a large vein in your chest (a central line), not a small vein.
  • If you experience pain, burning, swelling, or leaking at the infusion site, tell your doctor or nurse right away; the infusion will be stopped and started in another vein.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking blood thinners (like coumarin), insulin, or heparin.
  • If you are severely malnourished, your nutrition will be started slowly by your doctor.
  • Be aware of liver problems like fatty liver or jaundice (yellow skin/eyes). Tell your doctor if you have nausea, vomiting, or belly pain.
