How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the dose and how long you will receive Olimel N7 based on your needs and condition.

Method

Olimel N7 is given as a drip into a large vein in your chest (central vein) using a tube. It should be at room temperature, and one bag typically takes 12-24 hours to infuse.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 kcal/kg, which corresponds to 35 ml/kg of Olimel N7.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fast heart rate
  • Reduced appetite
  • Increased fat levels in the blood
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • High blood pressure
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including sweating, fever, chills, headache, rash, itching, hot flashes, or difficulty breathing.
  • Infusion leakage at the site (extravasation), which can cause pain, irritation, swelling, redness/warmth, tissue death, or blisters/inflammation at the infusion site.
  • Vomiting
  • Fat overload syndrome: impaired ability to clear fats, leading to a sudden worsening of general health and symptoms like fever, pale skin, weakness, or breathing difficulties.
  • Decreased red blood cell count (anemia).
  • Decreased white blood cell count (leukopenia), which may increase the risk of infection.
  • Decreased platelet count (thrombocytopenia), which may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
  • Blood clotting disorders.
  • High fat levels in the blood (hyperlipidemia).
  • Fat accumulation in the liver (hepatomegaly) or enlarged liver.
  • Impaired liver function.
  • Central nervous system symptoms (e.g., coma).
  • Abnormal liver function test results in blood.
  • Difficulty in bile acid excretion (cholestasis).
  • Liver disease related to intravenous nutrition.
  • Jaundice (yellow skin or eyes).
  • Increased nitrogen levels in the blood (azotemia).
  • Elevated liver enzyme levels.
  • Small particles blocking blood vessels in the lungs (pulmonary vascular precipitates), leading to blood clots and breathing difficulties.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine for premature babies, infants, or children under 2 years old.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to egg, soy, peanut, or corn proteins or products.
  • Tell your doctor if you have problems processing amino acids, very high fat levels in your blood, or very high blood sugar.
  • Giving the infusion too quickly can be harmful or life-threatening.
  • Stop the infusion immediately if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as sweating, fever, chills, headache, rash, or difficulty breathing.

  • Breathing difficulties can indicate small particles blocking blood vessels in the lungs.
  • There is an increased risk of infection due to the intravenous catheter; your doctor will monitor you for signs of infection.
  • If you are severely malnourished and need this medicine, treatment will start slowly, and your doctor will monitor your condition closely.
  • Fluid, salt, and metabolism imbalances must be corrected before starting the infusion. Your doctor will monitor your condition during treatment.
  • Liver problems or bile duct issues can occur with intravenous nutrition. Tell your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
  • Tell your doctor about any serious medical conditions you have, such as kidney or liver disease, blood clotting disorders, adrenal gland problems, heart or lung disease, or if you have fluid buildup, dehydration, uncontrolled high blood sugar, risk of heart attack or shock, severe blood acidity, sepsis, or coma.
  • If you feel pain, burning, or swelling at the infusion site, or if the infusion leaks, tell your doctor or nurse immediately. The infusion will be stopped and restarted in another vein.
  • Olimel N7 should not be given at the same time as blood through the same tubing.
  • Do not give this medicine in the same infusion line or mix it with ampicillin or fosphenytoin.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
