How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually between 5-20 mg per day.

Method

Take one tablet once a day, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Weight gain
  • Drowsiness
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin in the blood
  • Dizziness or feeling faint, especially when standing up
  • Changes in blood tests (including blood cells, fats, sugar, and liver enzymes)
  • Increased appetite
  • Restlessness
  • Tremor (shaking)
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Rash
  • Weakness or severe tiredness
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet due to fluid retention
  • Fever
  • Joint pain
  • Sexual problems, like decreased sex drive or erection problems
RARE
  • New or worsening diabetes, sometimes with severe complications like ketoacidosis or coma
  • Seizures (fits), especially if you have a history of them
  • Muscle stiffness or spasms (including eye movements)
  • Restless legs syndrome (an uncomfortable urge to move your legs)
  • Speech difficulties or stuttering
  • Slow heart rate
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Nosebleed
  • Bloating of the abdomen
  • Drooling
  • Memory loss or forgetfulness
  • Urinary problems (like incontinence or difficulty urinating)
  • Hair loss
  • Missed or reduced menstrual periods and breast changes in men and women (e.g., abnormal milk production or breast enlargement)
  • Low body temperature
  • Serious heart problems, including abnormal heart rhythm
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (causing severe stomach pain, fever, vomiting)
  • Liver disease, with yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Muscle disease with unexplained aches and pains
  • Prolonged or painful erection

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to olanzapine or any other ingredients. Seek medical help if you get a rash, itching, or swelling of your face/lips.
  • Do not take if you have certain eye problems like glaucoma.
  • This medicine can make you drowsy. Do not drive or operate machines. Avoid alcohol, as it can increase drowsiness.
  • It is not recommended for elderly patients with dementia due to serious side effects.
  • You may gain weight and have changes in blood sugar and fat levels. Your doctor will check these regularly.

  • This medicine can sometimes cause unusual movements of the face or tongue. Tell your doctor if this happens.
  • If you get a high fever, fast breathing, sweating, stiff muscles, or feel very sleepy, contact your doctor right away.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine.
