Olanzapin Orion
Olanzapin Orion is a medicine containing olanzapine, used to treat conditions like schizophrenia and severe mood swings (mania), and to help prevent these symptoms from returning.
How to Use
Dosage
The usual dose of Olanzapin Orion tablets is 5–20 mg once a day. Your doctor will tell you the right dose for you.
Method
Take one tablet once a day as your doctor instructs. Try to take it at the same time every day, with or without food. You can swallow the tablet whole or dissolve it in water, juice, milk, or coffee and drink it right away. Handle the tablets carefully as they break easily.
Do not take more than 20 mg per day.

- •Onset or worsening of diabetes, sometimes with ketoacidosis or coma

- •Stiff muscles and spasms (including eye movements)
- •Restless legs syndrome
- •Speech problems
- •Stuttering
- •Slow heart rate
- •Sensitivity to sunlight
- •Nosebleed
- •Abdominal bloating
- •Drooling
- •Memory loss or forgetfulness
- •Urinary incontinence
- •Difficulty urinating
- •Hair loss
- •Missed or infrequent periods
- •Breast changes in men and women (e.g., unusual milk production or breast enlargement)
- •Decreased body temperature
- •Heart rhythm problems
- •Unexplained sudden death
- •Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain, fever, and vomiting)
- •Liver disease (yellowing of skin and whites of eyes)
- •Muscle disease with unexplained aches and pains
- •Prolonged or painful erection
Important Warnings
- Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to olanzapine or any other ingredient in it. Signs of an allergic reaction can include a rash, itching, swelling of your face or lips, or trouble breathing.
- Do not take this medicine if you have a history of eye problems, such as a type of glaucoma (high pressure in the eye).
- This medicine is not for elderly patients with dementia, as it can cause serious side effects for them.
- Medicines like this can cause unusual movements of the face or tongue. Tell your doctor if you notice these movements.
- Very rarely, this medicine can cause symptoms like fever, fast breathing, sweating, stiff muscles, and drowsiness. If this happens, contact your doctor right away.

- Olanzapin Orion can cause weight gain. You and your doctor should regularly check your weight.
- This medicine can increase your blood sugar and fat levels. Your doctor will check these levels with blood tests before and during treatment.
- Tell your doctor if you or someone in your family has had blood clots, as medicines like this can increase the risk of blood clots.
- Olanzapin Orion can make you feel sleepy. If this happens, do not drive or operate dangerous machinery.
- Do not drink alcohol while taking Olanzapin Orion, as it can make you more drowsy.
Use in Elderly Patients
Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Sedative. For treatment of psychosis only. Increases the risk of cardiovascular events, QT prolongation and orthostatic hypotension. Increases risk of falls, extrapyramidal symptoms and cognitive impairment. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 15.1.2024)
