How to Use

Dosage

One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.

Method

Wash hands. Pull down lower eyelid. Hold bottle near eye (don't touch). Squeeze one drop into the eye. Close eye and press inner corner for 1 minute. Do this in the evening, as instructed by your doctor. Remove contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before reinserting.

Important

Do not use more than once a day; using more often may make it less effective.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Gradual change in eye color (iris may become browner).
  • Redness of the eye.
  • Eye irritation (burning, itching, stinging, gritty feeling, or feeling of a foreign body).
  • Gradual changes to eyelashes and fine hair around the treated eye (darkening, lengthening, thickening, more numerous).
  • Irritation or damage to the eye surface.
  • Eyelid inflammation (blepharitis).
  • Eye pain.
  • Sensitivity to light (photophobia).
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye).
RARE
  • Swelling of the eyelids.
  • Dry eyes.
  • Inflammation or irritation of the eye surface (keratitis).
  • Blurred vision.
  • Inflammation of the colored part of the eye (uveitis).
  • Swelling of the retina (macular edema).
  • Skin rash.
  • Chest pain (angina), heart palpitations.
  • Asthma, shortness of breath.
  • Chest pain (general).
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Muscle pain, joint pain.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Inflammation of the iris (iritis).
  • Swelling or scratching/damage to the eye surface.
  • Swelling around the eye.
  • Eyelashes growing in the wrong direction or an extra row of eyelashes.
  • Scarring on the eye surface.
  • Fluid-filled sac in the iris (iris cyst).
  • Skin reactions on eyelids, darkening of eyelid skin.
  • Worsening of asthma.
  • Severe skin itching.
  • Development of herpes simplex virus infection in the eye.
  • Worsening of chest pain (angina) in patients with heart disease.
  • Sunken eyes (deepening of eye socket).
  • Clouding of the cornea due to calcium deposits.
  • Runny and itchy nose, fever (more common in children).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to latanoprost or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you or your child are having or have had eye surgery (including cataract surgery).
  • Discuss with your doctor if you or your child have other eye problems like pain, irritation, inflammation, or blurred vision.
  • Inform your doctor if you or your child suffer from dry eyes.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your child have severe or uncontrolled asthma.

  • Speak to your doctor if you or your child have had or currently have a herpes simplex virus infection in the eye.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
  • Oftastad may temporarily blur your vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until your vision is clear.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Start and continue therapy under supervision by an ophthalmologist. May cause changes in iris pigmentation and excessive growth of eyelashes. (updated 4.12.2023)
