How to Use

Dosage

One drop in the eye(s) 4-6 times a day.

Method

Wash your hands. Tilt your head back and hold the bottle above your eye. Pull your lower eyelid down, look up, and gently squeeze one drop into your eye. Close your eye and press the inner corner with your finger for about one minute. If you use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between each type.

Important

Do not exceed 6 drops per eye per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Temporary stinging when you put in the eye drops.
RARE
  • Bone marrow problems (very low white and red blood cells), especially with long-term use of chloramphenicol.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Hormonal issues (Cushing's syndrome): increased body hair (especially in women), weak muscles, purple stretch marks, high blood pressure, irregular or missed periods, changes in body protein and calcium levels, slower growth in children and teens, and swelling and rounding of the body and face.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to dexamethasone, chloramphenicol, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have eye tuberculosis, eye infections caused by viruses or fungi, or sores in your eyes.
  • Avoid using contact lenses in an inflamed eye. This medicine contains a preservative (benzalkonium chloride) that can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may change their color. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in. This preservative can also irritate your eyes, especially if you have dry eyes or corneal problems. If your eye feels unusual, stings, or hurts after using this medicine, tell your doctor.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Long-term use (over two weeks) of dexamethasone may increase eye pressure and slow down the healing of corneal injuries.
