How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose, which is usually 20 mg every 4 weeks, but it can be adjusted between 10 mg and 40 mg every 4 weeks based on your condition.

Method

This medicine is always given as an injection deep into your buttock muscle. If you get repeated injections, they will be given in alternating buttocks (left and right).

Important

The maximum dose for this medicine is usually 40 mg every 4 weeks, as directed by your doctor, not a daily dose.

  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling, tingling, low blood pressure, dizziness, or fainting
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), with symptoms like sudden upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), with symptoms like yellow skin/eyes, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, general feeling of illness, itching, or pale urine
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Low number of platelets, which can lead to easy bleeding or bruising

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to octreotide or any other ingredients in it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have gallstones or have had them before, as long-term use of this medicine can cause gallstones. Your doctor may check your gallbladder regularly.
  • If you have diabetes, this medicine can affect your blood sugar levels. Your blood sugar should be checked regularly.
  • If you have had a lack of vitamin B12, your doctor may want to check your vitamin B12 levels regularly.
  • Pregnant women should only use this medicine if absolutely necessary. Women who can get pregnant must use effective birth control during treatment. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
