How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is between 110 and 220 MBq.

This medicine is given as a single injection into a vein.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Octreoscan if you are allergic to pentetreotide or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you have kidney problems, your doctor will only give you Octreoscan if it's absolutely necessary.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant. Octreoscan will only be used if the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
  • If you are breastfeeding, limit close contact with your baby for the first 36 hours after the injection.
  • Drink at least 2 liters of fluid (like water) and urinate often for 2-3 days after the injection to help remove the medicine from your body.

  • If you are under 18 years old, discuss this with your doctor. Octreoscan is only given to children if other similar medicines are not available or don't work well.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as they might affect your scan results.
  • If you take Octreotide for tumor symptoms, your doctor might pause this treatment for three days before you get Octreoscan.
  • If you take high doses of insulin, Octreoscan might cause your blood sugar to drop sharply.
  • This medicine contains a small amount of radiation, which carries a very low risk of cancer and genetic damage.
