How to Use

Dosage

Method

The powder is mixed with water and then given slowly into a vein as an infusion.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Blood clots in blood vessels.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, which can be severe (like shock), or cause hives, skin rash, or itching.
  • Fast heartbeat, low or high blood pressure, feeling dizzy or faint, or even heart stopping.
  • Trouble breathing, shortness of breath, asthma-like symptoms, or coughing up blood.
  • Feeling anxious, shaky, nauseous, or having chills and fever.
  • Warmth or a blockage where the medicine is injected.
  • Nosebleeds, changes in liver tests, the body making antibodies against the medicine (making it less effective), or a sudden drop in the number of blood platelets (due to heparin).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient in Octaplex, or to heparin.
  • This medicine can increase your risk of blood clots, especially if you are taking other blood-thinning medicines (like warfarin).
  • Severe allergic reactions can happen. If you have an allergic reaction, stop the infusion immediately and tell your doctor.
  • Too much Octaplex can lead to serious blood clotting problems, including heart attacks or clots in veins or lungs.
  • Since this medicine comes from human blood, always note the product name and batch number in case of any issues.
