How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will determine the right dose for you based on your medical condition and body weight.

Method

OctaplasLG is given as an infusion into your vein by a doctor or nurse.

Important

The infusion rate should not be faster than 1 milliliter per kilogram of body weight per minute to avoid complications.

  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fluid in lungs, narrowing of airways, acute respiratory distress

  • Low blood pressure, high blood pressure, flushing (redness of skin)
  • Dizziness, tingling, decreased sense of touch or feeling
  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
  • Fever, chills
  • Breakdown of red blood cells
  • Increased blood volume (fluid overload), citrate toxicity
  • General feeling of discomfort
  • Tendency to bleed
  • Anxiety, agitation, restlessness
  • Increased sweating
  • Back pain
  • Reaction at injection site, local swelling

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to human plasma proteins or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have antibodies against immunoglobulin IgA.
  • Do not use if you have previously had a reaction to any human plasma product or fresh frozen plasma (FFP).
  • Do not use if you have low levels of protein S (a blood clotting protein dependent on vitamin K).
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure or fluid in your lungs.

  • Tell your doctor if you are at risk of blood clotting problems (e.g., deep vein thrombosis).
  • Tell your doctor if you have increased breakdown of blood clots (fibrinolysis).
  • Although precautions are taken, there is a small risk of transmitting infections, including unknown viruses like Hepatitis A, Hepatitis E, and parvovirus B19.
  • Do not mix OctaplasLG with other intravenous fluids or medicines, except red blood cells and platelets if they are blood-group compatible. Do not give calcium-containing solutions in the same intravenous line.
  • High doses or a fast infusion rate can lead to fluid overload in your body, lungs, or heart.
  • You will be monitored for at least 20 minutes during and after the infusion for allergic reactions or shock; if they occur, the infusion will be stopped immediately.
