How to Use

Dosage

Usually, one drop is given before an eye exam or procedure, and more can be given if needed.

Method

A doctor or eye specialist will put the drops in your eye. They might ask you to gently press the inner corner of your eyelid for 1-2 minutes to stop the liquid from draining. Your eye will feel numb for about an hour. Do not touch your eye until the numbing effect has worn off.

Important

This medicine is only for short-term use under a doctor's care. Using it too much or for too long can seriously harm your eye.

RARE
  • Tremor (shaking)
  • Blurred vision
  • Slow heart rate
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dizziness
  • Itchy, red, and swollen eyelids; red, irritated, and watery eyes; burning or stinging eyes; scales and crusts on eyelash margins (like dandruff); light sensitivity.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Obupro if you are allergic to oxybuprocaine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use Obupro if you are allergic to other numbing medicines (local anesthetics) like those with p-aminobenzoic acid.
  • Take out your contact lenses before you get the eye drops. Wait at least one hour after your eye is no longer numb before putting your lenses back in. Not following this can hurt your cornea.
  • This medicine can make your vision blurry and slow your reactions. Do not drive or use machines until your vision is clear and you feel normal again.
  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies, heart problems, asthma, an overactive thyroid, or liver disease, or if you are an older patient.
Show 2 more warnings
  • Tell your doctor if your eye is inflamed or red, because red eyes can cause more of the medicine to enter your bloodstream through the eye surface.
  • Get medical help right away if you have signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling, rash, itching, hives, trouble breathing, chills, hot flashes, headache, feeling very unwell, nausea, restlessness, fast heartbeat, or low blood pressure.
