How to Use

Dosage

This medicine is usually taken 3 to 4 times a day. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Shake the bottle well before use. If treating mouth infections, take after meals and hold the medicine in your mouth for as long as possible before swallowing. If treating intestinal infections, swallow it right away. For babies, the medicine can be given in drops or applied gently with water to affected areas in the mouth.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor has told you. The maximum dose varies, typically 4 ml per day for oral infections (adults and children) and 15 ml per day for intestinal infections (adults).

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe skin changes, including painful sores (Stevens-Johnson syndrome). Stop using and call your doctor right away if this happens.
  • Severe allergic reactions, including sudden swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing. Stop using and call your doctor right away if this happens.
  • Skin rashes or itching.
  • Stomach problems like nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (being sick), or diarrhea (loose stools), especially with high doses.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Nystimex if you are allergic to nystatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, have recently taken, or might take.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
  • This medicine contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions, sometimes not appearing right away.
