This medicine is given as a drip into a vein through a small tube.

Important

One bag of this medicine should be given over a maximum of 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Irritation or swelling in a vein where the medicine is given (phlebitis, thrombophlebitis).
RARE
  • Feeling sick to your stomach, throwing up, or not wanting to eat.
  • Allergic reactions, like skin rashes, trouble breathing, swelling of your lips, mouth, and throat, or difficulty breathing.
  • Easier tendency for blood clots to form.
  • Bluish skin.
  • Trouble breathing.
  • Headache.
  • Feeling flushed or warm.
  • Redness of the skin.
  • Sweating.
  • Chills.
  • Feeling cold.
  • High body temperature.
  • Feeling sleepy.
  • Pain in your chest, back, bones, or lower back.
  • Blood pressure going down or up.
  • Very high levels of fats or sugar in your blood.
  • High levels of acid in your blood.
  • Too much fat in your body, which can lead to fat overload syndrome; these problems usually go away when the drip is stopped.

  • Do not use if you are allergic to the active ingredients, eggs, peanuts, soybeans, or any other part of this medicine.
  • Do not give this medicine to babies or children under two years old.
  • Life-threatening circulation problems, like passing out or shock.
  • Heart attack or stroke.
  • Severe bleeding problems or a high risk of bleeding.

  • Certain body chemical problems, like too much fat in your blood.
  • Problems from birth with how your body uses amino acids.
  • Very high blood sugar that needs more than 6 units of insulin per hour to control.
  • Body chemical problems that happen after surgery or injury.
  • Coma where the cause is not known.
  • Not enough oxygen getting to your body's tissues.
  • Too much acid in your blood.
