How to Use

Dosage

The doctor will decide the dose and treatment duration based on your child's needs, weight, and health condition.

Method

The medicine is given as an infusion directly into your child's vein through a tube in the arm or chest.

Important

The doctor will determine the safe maximum daily dose for your child and will monitor the treatment closely.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood.
  • High blood sugar.
  • High calcium levels in the blood.
  • High triglyceride levels in the blood.
  • Low sodium levels in the blood.
RARE
  • High fat levels in the blood.
  • Bile doesn't flow from the liver (cholestasis).

Important Warnings

  • Tell the doctor if your child is allergic to eggs, soy, peanuts, or corn, or if they show signs of an allergic reaction like fever or rash.
  • Do not give this medicine at the same time as the antibiotic ceftriaxone, as it can cause dangerous particles to form in the blood.
  • Do not give this medicine if your child has very high blood sugar.
  • Do not give this medicine if your child has very high fat levels in the blood.
  • If your child is under 2 years old, the medicine, including the bag and tubing, must be protected from light during treatment.

  • If your child has difficulty breathing, tell the doctor immediately, as small particles might form in the blood vessels of the lungs.
  • The infusion tube can cause infection or blood poisoning, especially if your child is already sick. The doctor will monitor this risk.
  • Sometimes a "fat overload syndrome" can occur if the body doesn't clear fats properly or if the dose is too high. The doctor will monitor your child.
  • The doctor will monitor your child's fluid balance and blood values during treatment, as these can change.
